The 2013 Coos Symposium gathered over 100 community leaders together to strengthen community relationships, expand regional networks, share information and exchange ideas about the greater Coos region. NH Listens, a statewide public engagement initiative of the Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire, was pleased to participate in the conference to share ideas and stories of communities across NH working through tough public issues using facilitated community conversation and deliberation. Out of the many recommendations discussed at the Symposium, interest was expressed for founding a regional Listens initiative that is focused on North Country community issues.
With support from the Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund, NH Listens is helping to establish a regional Listens project in the greater Coos County area, called North Country Listens. With the support of area community leaders, these founding advisers helped to establish North Country Listens in the spring 2014. A part-time project coordinator is advised by the Advisory Committee made up of representatives from around the region to help launch and carry forth the mission of the Listening project in the North Country.
